2010 NSSA Match Racing Championships.

16th to 18th April @ Queen Mary Sailing Club

The NSSA Match Racing Championships has always been an extremely popular event and with the introduction of the RYA’s J80 boats in recent years we have seen an unprecedented surge in interest. However, 2010 marks the sale of the RYA’s J80 boats to the Royal Thames Yacht Club. They will still be based at Queen Mary Sailing Club at the top of the M3 but instead of hiring the boats from the Royal Yachting Association, we will now be hiring the boats for the 2010 event from the Royal Thames Yacht Club.

As a result there is now a new price structure being used so we have had to increase the entry fees slightly to cover these extra costs. As ever we have worked hard to keep the costs to competitors to an absolute minimum and we hope that everybody can still take part. This means entry to this year’s event is now £350 for a team and the refundable damage deposit is £500.

If the increasing costs will mean that groups of youngsters will not be able to attend we strongly suggest you look into the various funding opportunities that are available. If you would like any advice on suitable funding programmes then please email us for further information. Secretary@NSSA.org.uk

NSSA selects a new Chairperson

The National School Sailing Association is pleased to announce that it has selected Helen Denton as its new Chair.

Chris Lowe, the NSSA Vice Chairman said: “Finding absolutely the right person to lead the NSSA forward in such positive times has been quite a challenge for us. We are delighted therefore that Helen has agreed to be our Chair. She has significant management and leadership experience and skills both in leading private, public and voluntary sector organisations. We look forward to working with her over the coming years. Helen will be taking up her post as Chair immediately and will be confirmed in July 2009 at the NSSA’s Annual General Meeting”.

Following her appointment Helen said; I look forward to working alongside Chris and the rest of Executive Committee. With so much emphasis on retaining children and young people in healthy sports at the moment, we have a great opportunity to develop the work of the NSSA and to encourage even more participation.

Helen currently works with Lancashire County Council as their Executive Director for Children and Young People. She has extensive experience at improving performance and developing strong relationships with those engaged in supporting children and young people.

Chris Lowe went on to say; “the NSSA is a very strong organisation that has great potential to develop further. We know that with Helen’s involvement, we can meet this potential and involve even more youngsters in the sport of sailing”.
