Training
Training Afloat
For Practical Sailing the NSSA works with the RYA on a joint proficiency scheme. It is recommended that sailing takes place at a recognised Training Centre using RYA Qualified instructors. At the beginning there are taster certificates available in both sailing and windsurfing. The Junior Sailing Scheme provides a graduated series of certificates and is suitable for students up to the age of 16, above this there is an adult scheme.
To support this training there are various instructor qualifications which begin with "Assistant Instructor" which is done locally, through to the nationally recongnised "Instructor" and "Senior Instructor" The NSSA have a number of schemes to help their members gain the necessary qualifications.

Curriculum Support
Sailing Across the Curriculum is a practical handbook for teachers, centre leaders, club leaders and all interested adults produced by the NSSA with support from the British Marine Industries Federation in 1998. Thanks to our friends at http://aptart-design.co.uk/ we have been able to reproduce the document as a series of pdf files which you can download from the curriculum page. This also offers access to other curriculum material such as wordsearches and the original curriculum papers produced in the 1970's

The NSSA is fortunate to have a good working relationship with the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation which has provided grants to assist with training afloat and to enable young people to attend our events. There are a number of programmes being funded and details are on the ASSF page together with application forms.
